Cele mai multe \u0219i constante cercet\u0103ri de teren ale mele se desf\u0103\u0219oar\u0103, de peste un deceniu, \u00een Balcani, \u00een vechile a\u0219ez\u0103ri ale p\u0103storilor arom\u00e2ni, r\u0103sp\u00e2ndi\u021bi ast\u0103zi cu prec\u0103dere \u00een Grecia \u0219i Albania, dar \u0219i \u00een Republica Macedonia de Nord, Rom\u00e2nia \u0219i, \u00een mai mic\u0103 m\u0103sur\u0103, \u00een Bulgaria. De asemenea, vara mea, Carmen Dobrot\u0103, c\u0103reia \u00eei sunt recunosc\u0103tor pentru at\u00e2tea drumuri f\u0103cute \u00eempreun\u0103 \u0219i care a curatoriat de-a lungul timpului mai multe dintre expozi\u021biile mele de antropologie vizual\u0103.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00cen<\/strong><strong> 2017, <\/strong><strong>am descoperit<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><strong>\u00een timpul unei cercet\u0103ri de arhiv\u0103<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>la Muzeul<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>Na\u021bional al <\/strong><strong>\u021a<\/strong><strong>\u0103ranului Rom\u00e2n din Bucure\u0219ti, c\u0103<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>pu\u021bine dintre fotografiile cu localit\u0103\u021bi arom\u00e2ne din Fondul Manakia, una dintre cele mai importante arhive de imagine veche p\u0103strate<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u00een Rom\u00e2nia, sunt localizate, multe dintre ele av\u00e2nd<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u00een registru o descriere sumar\u0103<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><strong>f\u0103cut\u0103<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u00een spiritul<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u00eenceputului de secol XX, de tipul<\/strong><strong>: \u201e<\/strong><strong>comun\u0103 rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 din Balcani\u201d. Ast\u0103zi, antropologii au datoria de a fi mult mai preci\u0219i. Pe unele le-am identificat imediat, urmare a cercet\u0103rilor de teren realizate anterior, a\u0219a cum a fost cu fotografia satului Iliochori din Zagori, unde platanul vechi de o mie de ani din pia\u021ba a\u0219ez\u0103rii, printre cei mai b\u0103tr\u00e2ni din Grecia, a fost imediat un indice vizual de neconfundat. Pentru alte fotografii, povestea e pu\u021bin aventuroas\u0103, a urmat o nou\u0103 serie de cercet\u0103ri de teren, de \u00eent\u00e2mpl\u0103ri \u0219i \u00eent\u00e2lniri marcate de coinciden\u021be interesante, \u00een \u021b\u0103rile balcanice. Tot atunci am avut ideea de a reface ast\u0103zi fotografiile de pe la 1900, cu exact aceea\u0219i \u00eencadrare ca fra\u021bii Manakia.<\/strong><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"695\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/beyondyesterday.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/foto-1-695x1024.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/beyondyesterday.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/foto-1-695x1024.webp 695w, https:\/\/beyondyesterday.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/foto-1-204x300.webp 204w, https:\/\/beyondyesterday.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/foto-1.webp 727w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 695px) 100vw, 695px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ianaki \u0219i Milton Manakia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fra\u021bii Ianaki \u0219i Milton Manakia s-au n\u0103scut \u00eentr-o familie de p\u0103stori arom\u00e2ni, \u00een a doua parte a secolului al XIX-lea, la Avdela, un sat coco\u021bat pe \u00een\u0103l\u021bimile Mun\u021bilor Pindului, pe atunci \u00eenc\u0103 \u00een Imperiul Otoman, ast\u0103zi, \u00een Grecia. Istoria \u00eei va re\u021bine drept autori ai unui num\u0103r mare de fotografii de o importan\u021b\u0103 documentar\u0103 deosebit\u0103 \u0219i drept primii cinea\u0219ti care au \u00eenregistrat un film pe teritoriul Imperiului Otoman \u0219i \u00een Balcani, la numai un deceniu dup\u0103 ce fra\u021bii Lumi\u00e8re realizaser\u0103 primul film din istoria omenirii. Cei doi urmeaz\u0103 \u0219coala rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 din satul natal, apoi liceul rom\u00e2nesc de la Ioannina, iar drumurile lor se vor desprinde de cele ale str\u0103mo\u0219ilor, posesori de mari turme de oi. \u00cen schimb, vor deveni \u201etranshuman\u021bi\u201d prin Balcani, pentru a realiza fotografii \u00eentr-o perioad\u0103 extrem de complicat\u0103 din punct de vedere politic \u0219i istoric, care \u00eensemna pr\u0103bu\u0219irea definitiv\u0103 a Imperiului Otoman, r\u0103zboaiele balcanice, urmate de trasarea grani\u021belor na\u021bionale. \u00ce\u0219i vor deschide un atelier fotografic la Ioannina, pe care, apoi, \u00eel vor muta la Monastir \u2212 Bitola de ast\u0103zi din Republica Macedonia de Nord, pe atunci capital\u0103 a provinciei otomane cu acela\u0219i nume \u0219i al doilea ora\u0219 ca m\u0103rime din regiune, dup\u0103 Salonic. Ianaki \u0219i Milton vor c\u0103l\u0103tori prin satele, unele foarte greu accesibile, dar \u0219i prin ora\u0219ele \u0219i t\u00e2rgurile provinciei, pentru a realiza, la comand\u0103, fotografii. Cu un aparat de fotografiat mare, greu \u0219i cli\u0219ee fragile, de sticl\u0103. Era o profesie f\u0103cut\u0103 cu pasiune \u0219i foarte mult talent, dar, mai ales, era o modalitate de a-\u0219i c\u00e2\u0219tiga traiul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Majoritatea fotografiilor p\u0103strate \u00een arhiva de la Muzeul Na\u021bional al \u021a\u0103ranului Rom\u00e2n sunt portrete de oameni obi\u0219nui\u021bi din acea perioad\u0103, \u00eembr\u0103ca\u021bi \u00een costume tradi\u021bionale sau \u00een hain\u0103 \u201enem\u021beasc\u0103\u201d. Modernitatea \u0219i arhaicul, contemporane mai mult ca niciodat\u0103 \u00een acea epoc\u0103 de \u00eenceput de modernizare a Balcanilor, se v\u0103d bine \u00een fotografiile lor. Am avut surpriza s\u0103 constat c\u0103 nu era vorba de lumi diferite, care tr\u0103iau simultan, dar care rareori veneau \u00een contact, a\u0219a cum eram tentat s\u0103 cred \u0219i precum prezint\u0103 majoritatea istoricilor interesa\u021bi de epoc\u0103. Era vorba de altceva: de lumi suprapuse. C\u0103l\u0103torind prin satele din Pind am constatat c\u0103, uneori, aceia\u0219i oameni apar \u00een fotografii, \u00een func\u021bie de context, c\u00e2nd \u00een ipostaz\u0103 de p\u0103stori, \u00een haine tradi\u021bionale, c\u00e2nd \u00een haine \u201ebune\u201d de ora\u0219, domni \u0219i doamne alinia\u021bi la moda \u0219i luxul european, de\u0219i locuiau \u00een sate aparent rupte de lume. Portretelor li se adaug\u0103 fotografii cu evenimente de familie, nun\u021bi sau \u00eenmorm\u00e2nt\u0103ri, petreceri la marile s\u0103rb\u0103tori religioase, dar \u0219i unele evenimente politice, precum vizita sultanului la Bitola, care devine subiect de film pentru cei doi fra\u021bi. Dac\u0103 fotografiile p\u0103strate la Bucure\u0219ti sunt mai ales de interes etnografic, miile de cli\u0219ee pe sticl\u0103 p\u0103strate \u00een arhiva de la Bitola dezv\u0103luie un extraordinar caleidoscop al vie\u021bii balcanice de \u00eenceput de secol XX, \u00eenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219\u00e2nd adesea banalul cotidian de atunci, devenit acum, dup\u0103 trecerea timpului, uimitor prin bog\u0103\u021bie, intensitate \u0219i diferen\u021b\u0103 fa\u021b\u0103 de zilele noastre. Multe dintre scenele fotografiate de fra\u021bi sunt redate cu des\u0103v\u00e2r\u0219it sim\u021b artistic, cu un rafinament cu totul special al \u00eencadr\u0103rii \u0219i surprinderii clipei, ce uluie\u0219te antropologul care p\u0103trunde ast\u0103zi \u00een arhive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00cen 1906, Ianaki \u0219i Milton Manakia sunt invita\u021bi la Bucure\u0219ti, pentru Expozi\u021bia General\u0103 Rom\u00e2n\u0103, ocazie cu care primesc titlul de fotografi ai Cur\u021bii Regale a Rom\u00e2niei. Cu acest prilej, un fond de fotografii reprezent\u00e2nd portrete de arom\u00e2ni \u0219i a\u0219ez\u0103ri ale arom\u00e2nilor din Pind a fost achizi\u021bionat pentru Muzeul de Art\u0103 Na\u021bional\u0103, str\u0103mo\u0219ul Muzeului Na\u021bional al \u021a\u0103ranului Rom\u00e2n de ast\u0103zi, \u00eenfiin\u021bat chiar atunci de Tzigara-Samurca\u0219. Acestea sunt fotografiile pe urma c\u0103rora am pornit, al\u0103turi de colegul meu american, \u00een vara anului 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Privind \u00een urm\u0103, vizitele la Bucure\u0219ti au marcat un punct de cotitur\u0103 \u00een cariera celor doi fra\u021bi. Din acel moment activitatea lor \u00eencepe s\u0103 devin\u0103 profund semnificativ\u0103 pentru istoria vizual\u0103 a Balcanilor. La Bucure\u0219ti, fra\u021bii Manakia v\u0103d pentru prima oar\u0103 o proiec\u021bie de film \u0219i afl\u0103 astfel detalii despre tehnica cinematografic\u0103 a fra\u021bilor Lumi\u00e8re. Sunt ului\u021bi, a\u0219a c\u0103 Ianaki merge la Londra, pentru a cump\u0103ra o camer\u0103 de filmat. E \u2013 \u00eent\u00e2mplarea! \u2013 camera de filmat Bioscope cu num\u0103rul 300 din lume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00centr-o vreme \u00een care se filmau cu prec\u0103dere noile cuceriri ale tehnicii, zg\u00e2rie-norii \u0219i vapoarele transoceanice, cei doi fra\u021bi urc\u0103 \u00een satul lor de munte \u0219i, prin 1906 sau 1907 (anul e nesigur), realizeaz\u0103 un documentar etnografic. Desigur, mut, cu o durat\u0103 de nici un minut, pentru c\u0103 acelea erau standardele tehnice ale vremii. Prin acest film ei ating, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 \u0219tie, un triplu record mondial. E primul film f\u0103cut vreodat\u0103 \u00een \u00eenc\u0103 foarte vastul Imperiu Otoman, precum \u0219i primul documentar etnografic din Balcani. De fapt, primul documentar de orice fel din Balcani. Subiectul? Prelucratul tradi\u021bional al l\u00e2nii. Oric\u00e2t de \u00eenaintat\u0103 ar p\u0103rea, v\u00e2rsta ei nu era \u0219i nu e ceva neobi\u0219nuit la vlahii din Pind. Cu alte cuvinte, bunica Despa s-a n\u0103scut \u00een veacul al XVIII-lea (1792?! 1793?), \u00een timpul lui Ali Pa\u0219a, pe vremea c\u00e2nd Napoleon abia \u00eencepea s\u0103 devin\u0103 Napoleon. Dat\u0103 incredibil de veche pentru un om pe care azi putem s\u0103 \u00eel vedem \u00een mi\u0219care, \u00eentr-un film. Un alt record de care cei doi fra\u021bi nu au fost con\u0219tien\u021bi c\u00e2nd filmau acas\u0103, \u00een satul lor de munte, ne\u0219tiut de Europa, ne\u0219tiut de nimeni. Nu papa Leon al XIII-lea, n\u0103scut \u00een 1810, \u0219i nici Rebecca Clarke, n\u0103scut\u0103 \u00een 1804 \u00een Marea Britanie \u0219i \u00eenregistrat\u0103 cu o camer\u0103 Kinora \u00een 1912, sunt cei mai \u201evechi\u201c oameni filma\u021bi vreodat\u0103, cum a re\u021binut istoria oficial\u0103 a cinematografiei, ci <em>maia <\/em>Despa din Avdela, <em>mama mari<\/em> a lui Milton \u0219i a lui Ianaki Manakia. Nu un om celebru, din Europa vestic\u0103, motorul tehnicii \u0219i al \u201eciviliza\u021biei\u201d, ci o b\u0103tr\u00e2n\u0103 din Mun\u021bii Pindului, dintr-un sat izolat din Balcanii otomani despre care a c\u0103ror existen\u021b\u0103 Europa abia aflase la \u00eenceput de secol XX, din Balcanii care fierbeau \u0219i despre care ziarele vestice relatau cu oroare \u0219i fascina\u021bie \u00een acela\u0219i timp din pricina r\u0103zboaielor balcanice. Sunt h\u0103r\u021bi etnice ale provinciei otomane Macedonia. Spre sud, de\u0219i nu apare pe hart\u0103, pentru c\u0103 nu era deloc important, e Avdela, satul fra\u021bilor Manakia, \u0219i, pu\u021bin mai la nord, ora\u0219ul Monastir, cunoscut drept ora\u0219 al consulilor, de data aceasta \u00eensemnat pe hart\u0103, unde \u00ee\u0219i aveau atelierul fotografic fra\u021bii \u0219i unde \u00ee\u0219i vor deschide \u0219i un cinematograf devenit repede foarte popular \u00een \u00eentreaga provincie. Cur\u00e2nd, Avdela va deveni parte a Greciei. Cur\u00e2nd, Monastir se va numi Bitola, pentru c\u0103 intr\u0103 \u00een componen\u021ba Regatului Iugoslaviei. Iar aceasta e urmarea unor tensiuni istorice teribile. H\u0103r\u021bile \u00eenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219eaz\u0103 un amestec etnic greu de \u00een\u021beles, \u00een care e imposibil s\u0103 trasezi grani\u021be precise, cum dorea ideologia epocii. De la numele provinciei Macedonia vine \u0219i cuv\u00e2ntul francez pentru un fel de salat\u0103, <em>mac\u00e9doine<\/em>, dovad\u0103 c\u0103 francezii, at\u00e2t de celebri pentru polite\u021bea lor, nu au fost mereu a\u0219a \u00een istorie. Dar h\u0103r\u021bile \u00eenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219eaz\u0103, prin nume, \u0219i disputele teritoriale din acel moment. O hart\u0103 are subtitlul <em>point de vue bulgare<\/em>, o alta, <em>point de vue serbe<\/em>. \u00cen discursul istoric, politic \u0219i cartografic al Europei apare un nou nume de etnie: macedonenii slavi, numi\u021bi p\u00e2n\u0103 atunci bulgari. Teritoriul era \u00een egal\u0103 m\u0103sur\u0103 revendicat de Serbia \u0219i de Bulgaria. Cea mai mare parte a lui, de Grecia, \u00een virtutea unei istorii care coboar\u0103 glorios p\u00e2n\u0103 \u00een Antichitatea cea mai veche. Harta locuirii etnice servea drept argument \u0219i principiu de \u00eemp\u0103r\u021bire \u00eentr-o epoc\u0103 \u00een care na\u021biunile, dup\u0103 secole de st\u0103p\u00e2nire otoman\u0103, voiau independen\u021b\u0103 \u0219i c\u00e2t mai mult teritoriu. Dar nici o hart\u0103 din epoc\u0103 nu permite delimit\u0103ri etnice clare \u0219i, oricum, toate sau aproape toate exagerau propor\u021bia uneia dintre etnii \u00een defavoarea altora, povestind vizual istoria \u0219i geografia dup\u0103 interese politice \u0219i teritoriale. O alta, \u00een virtutea graiului vorbit, pentru identitatea rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 \u0219i, \u00een contextul schimb\u0103rilor de grani\u021be de atunci, destul de mul\u021bi au ales s\u0103 \u00ee\u0219i p\u0103r\u0103seasc\u0103 locul de origine \u0219i s\u0103 vin\u0103 \u00een Cadrilaterul pe atunci rom\u00e2nesc, care va trece la Bulgaria \u00een 1940, ceea ce va genera noi \u0219i triste schimburi de popula\u021bie. Dup\u0103 1935, se vor desp\u0103r\u021bi. Ianaki va muri la Salonic, \u00een 1954, \u00een Grecia, s\u0103rac \u0219i r\u0103v\u0103\u0219it de moartea prea timpurie a fiului s\u0103u. Arhiva lui va fi cump\u0103rat\u0103 de statul iugoslav, \u00eei vor fi luate interviuri, i se va dedica din timpul vie\u021bii un film documentar realizat la Zagreb. Filmul artistic al regizorului grec Theo Angelopoulos <em>To vlemma tou Odyssea \/ Privirea lui Ulise <\/em>(1995)<em>, <\/em>o capodoper\u0103 care vorbe\u0219te \u00eentr-un extraordinar \u0219i melancolic limbaj artistic despre soarta trist\u0103 a f\u0103r\u00e2mi\u021b\u0103rii Balcanilor \u00een state cu grani\u021be \u00eenchise \u0219i despre tragedia atroce a dezr\u0103d\u0103cin\u0103rii, porne\u0219te de la secven\u021bele cu <em>maia<\/em> Despa filmate de cei doi fra\u021bi \u00een Avdela. Angelopoulos construie\u0219te periplul unui personaj contemporan prin Balcanii de dup\u0103 1990, c\u00e2nd grani\u021bele se redeschid dup\u0103 decenii bune, \u00een c\u0103utarea unui ipotetic film pierdut al fra\u021bilor Manakia. De fapt, \u00een c\u0103utarea propriei identit\u0103\u021bi pierdute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acest excurs prin povestea fra\u021bilor a fost necesar pentru a \u00een\u021belege, minimal, contextul cercet\u0103rii mele de antropologie vizual\u0103. Moscopole se afl\u0103 ast\u0103zi \u00een Albania \u0219i este redus la statutul de foarte mic\u0103 a\u0219ezare istoric\u0103, ars\u0103 \u0219i \u00eempr\u0103\u0219tiat\u0103 la fine de veac XVIII de Ali Pa\u0219a pentru faima sa \u0219i pentru poten\u021bialul pericol de r\u0103zmeri\u021b\u0103 pe care \u00eel reprezenta la adresa st\u0103p\u00e2nirii otomane \u00een Balcani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cu o singur\u0103 excep\u021bie, toate aceste fotografii \u00eenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219\u00e2nd a\u0219ez\u0103ri respir\u0103 calmul izol\u0103rii \u00een natur\u0103, l\u00e2ng\u0103 v\u00e2rfuri de munte, \u00eentre p\u0103duri, foarte departe de marile drumuri comerciale care traversau peninsula. Dincolo de lini\u0219tea lor, ochiul antropologului cite\u0219te, \u00een fundal, zgomotul epocii, conflictele \u0219i zbaterea identitar\u0103 a arom\u00e2nilor de atunci, urmate de plecarea lor din aceste sate \u0219i or\u0103\u0219ele de munte c\u0103tre alte locuri, urmate de \u00eemp\u0103r\u021birea lor \u00eentre \u021b\u0103ri inamice \u0219i de imposibilitatea de a practica transhuman\u021ba pe drumuri care, brusc, au fost t\u0103iate de grani\u021be. Dintre localit\u0103\u021bile \u00eenf\u0103\u021bi\u0219ate \u00een fotografiile fra\u021bilor Manakia reproduse \u00een paginile care urmeaz\u0103, majoritatea se afl\u0103 \u00een Grecia de ast\u0103zi, patru se afl\u0103 \u00een Republica Macedonia de Nord, iar una singur\u0103, \u00een Albania. Atunci c\u00e2nd le-a cump\u0103rat de la cei doi fra\u021bi, pentru Muzeul de Art\u0103 Na\u021bional\u0103, Tzigara-Samurca\u0219 a notat pe c\u00e2teva dintre fotografii numele a\u0219ez\u0103rilor. Cele mai multe \u00eens\u0103 nu poart\u0103 un nume, ci doar indica\u021bia vag\u0103, f\u0103cut\u0103 \u00een spiritul na\u021bional al epocii, \u201ecomun\u0103 rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 din Balcani\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00cen august 2017, \u00een chiar ziua \u00een care urma s\u0103 plec cu colegul meu american \u00een Grecia, pentru un alt episod al cercet\u0103rilor noastre de teren, am poposit la muzeu pentru a-i ar\u0103ta \u0219i lui (abia sosise la Bucure\u0219ti) originalele acestor fotografii. Atunci am constatat, \u00eempreun\u0103, c\u0103 din cataloagele muzeului lipsea localizarea exact\u0103 a multor imagini. Am recunoscut imediat unele dintre a\u0219ez\u0103ri, poposisem acolo de numeroase ori \u00een cercet\u0103rile noastre anterioare. Ilochori (Dobrinovo, \u00een arom\u00e2n\u0103) a fost u\u0219or de identificat \u2013 p\u0103streaz\u0103 \u00een pia\u021ba lui poate cel mai b\u0103tr\u00e2n platan din Grecia, de peste 1000 de ani, chiar dac\u0103 ast\u0103zi a\u0219ezarea, c\u00e2ndva prosper\u0103 \u0219i foarte populat\u0103, nu mai arat\u0103 deloc la fel, pentru c\u0103 a fost ars\u0103 crunt de trupele germane \u00een retragere \u00een timpul celui de-al Doilea R\u0103zboi Mondial. La fel de u\u0219or de recunoscut au fost Kallarites \/ C\u0103larli \u0219i Syrako \/ Siracu, cu arhitectura lor de piatr\u0103, neschimbat\u0103 p\u00e2n\u0103 azi. Acolo eu am petrecut s\u0103pt\u0103m\u00e2ni \u00eentregi pentru scrierea unuia dintre capitolele din teza mea de doctorat \u00een arhitectur\u0103. Observa\u021biile noastre au fost imediat notate \u00een registrele muzeului, iar coordonatoarea arhivei, Simina B\u0103dic\u0103, a scris \u00eentr-o postare de pe pagina muzeului c\u0103 cea mai bun\u0103 zi pentru curatorul unei arhive e ziua \u00een care afl\u0103 lucruri noi de la al\u021bii despre cli\u0219eele din propria arhiv\u0103. Fotografia al\u0103turat\u0103 e \u201efurat\u0103\u201d de Simina, \u00een timp ce eu \u0219i colegul meu de cercetare povesteam despre aceste sate, spun\u00e2ndu-le pe nume, amintindu-ne de arom\u00e2nii \u0219i de pove\u0219tile acelor locuri. Dar parte dintre fotografii erau \u0219i pentru noi un mister. Fotografia or\u0103\u0219elului Kru\u0161evo (Cru\u0219uva, \u00een arom\u00e2n\u0103) purta nota\u021bia de m\u00e2n\u0103 a lui Samurca\u0219: <em>Comuna Cru\u0219uva ars\u0103 de turci \u00een timpul revolu\u021biei bulgare din 1903 August 15<\/em>. Totul era s\u0103 identific\u0103m cu exactitate locul din care fra\u021bii fotografiaser\u0103 a\u0219ezarea. Kru\u0161evo nu e o comun\u0103, ci un or\u0103\u0219el, cel mai \u00eenalt din Balcani, locul unde s-au refugiat o parte din arom\u00e2nii din Moscopole dup\u0103 distrugerea ora\u0219ului, despre care am pomenit mai devreme. Li s-au ad\u0103ugat, \u00een timp, mijacii, o popula\u021bie de macedoneni slavi, foarte interesant\u0103 din punct de vedere antropologic, albanezi ortodoc\u0219i, slaviza\u021bi de-a lungul timpului, greci \u0219i slavi macedoneni din \u00eemprejurimi. \u00cen secolul al XIX-lea, Kru\u0161evo devine un centru negustoresc important. Vlahii de aici \u00eentre\u021bineau leg\u0103turi comerciale cu Viena \u0219i Budapesta sau cu alte ora\u0219e mari din Europa Central\u0103. Aceasta a dus la prosperitate. Prosperitatea a dus la o modernizare \u0219i o europenizare rapid\u0103, iar bog\u0103\u021bia de atunci a ora\u0219ului se cite\u0219te \u00een arhitectura fermec\u0103toare \u0219i ruinat\u0103 de acum a caselor, un amestec de stil otoman cu elemente vene\u021biene \u0219i detalii arhitecturale central-europene, pe care l-am putea numi \u201estil balcanic\u201d. \u00cen 1903, de Sf\u00e2ntul Ilie, locuitorii din Kru\u0161evo se revolt\u0103 \u00eempotriva st\u0103p\u00e2nirii otomane. De aceea, revolta se cheam\u0103, \u00een c\u0103r\u021bile de istorie, Ilinden. Capul rebeliunii e Pitu Guli, arom\u00e2n. E proclamat\u0103 o republic\u0103 \u0219i este scris un manifest, numit de istorici <em>Manifestul de la Kru\u0161evo<\/em>. E un apel c\u0103tre toate na\u021biunile din Macedonia, indiferent de religie \u0219i etnie, s\u0103 lupte \u00eempotriva otomanilor. Trebuie s\u0103 recunoa\u0219tem c\u0103 ideea unei republici multina\u021bionale \u0219i multiconfesionale e de o modernitate uluitoare pentru \u00eenceputul de secol XX \u00een Balcani. Autorit\u0103\u021bile turce ignor\u0103 ini\u021bial revolta, socotind c\u0103 ora\u0219ul e prea mic \u0219i prea izolat pentru a merita aten\u021bie. Apoi se sperie \u0219i \u00eendreapt\u0103 asupra ora\u0219ului o for\u021b\u0103 armat\u0103 dispropor\u021bionat de mare \u00een raport cu num\u0103rul locuitorilor. Iar Kru\u0161evo rezist\u0103 \u00een lupt\u0103 nea\u0219teptat de mult acestei for\u021be armate turce\u0219ti. 10 zile, timp \u00een care locuitorii s-au organizat admirabil pentru a lua decizii: au constituit un consiliu al ora\u0219ului format din 60 de membri (20 de arom\u00e2ni, 20 de macedoneni, 20 de greci, ca toate etniile din ora\u0219 s\u0103 fie egal reprezentate), au topit clopotele bisericilor pentru a-\u0219i face arme, au improvizat o fabric\u0103 de muni\u021bie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fra\u021bii Manakia sosesc la dou\u0103 zile dup\u0103 ce ora\u0219ul fusese distrus de turci \u0219i fac fotografia ajuns\u0103 la noi. Cu aceast\u0103 fotografie \u00een m\u00e2n\u0103 am pornit la pas, prin Cru\u0219uva, \u00een august 2017, pentru a identifica cu exactitate locul realiz\u0103rii ei. L-am g\u0103sit repede, dar pozi\u021bia, \u00een sine, p\u0103rea aproximativ\u0103. Unghiul pe care \u00eel ob\u021bineam pentru imaginea de azi era fie prea jos, fie prea sus fa\u021b\u0103 de fotografia veche, \u00een func\u021bie de strada pe care ne aflam. Am realizat repede c\u0103, de fapt, fotografia fusese f\u0103cut\u0103 de pe o pozi\u021bie aflat\u0103 \u00eentre cele dou\u0103 str\u0103zi, unde ast\u0103zi e o cas\u0103. Multe schimb\u0103 un secol de istorie. Ghidurile turistice prezint\u0103 ora\u0219ul drept ref\u0103cut aproape identic dup\u0103 distrugerea din 1903, dar compara\u021bia vizual\u0103 a imaginilor m-a dus c\u0103tre o alt\u0103 concluzie. Refacerea ora\u0219ului a fost aproximativ\u0103, departe totu\u0219i de prosperitatea lui de secol XIX. Identic a fost ref\u0103cut\u0103 doar biserica arom\u00e2n\u0103. Locuitorii din Kru\u0161evo au fost mari sculptori \u00een lemn, iar legenda pe care am auzit-o la Cru\u0219uva spune c\u0103 me\u0219terul care lucrase la catapeteasm\u0103 ani la r\u00e2nd o terminase cu doar pu\u021bin\u0103 vreme \u00eenainte ca turcii s\u0103 rad\u0103 biserica de pe fa\u021ba p\u0103m\u00e2ntului. Afl\u00e2nd de distrugere, me\u0219terul a \u00eennebunit \u0219i a putut fi v\u0103zut tot restul vie\u021bii sale umbl\u00e2nd f\u0103r\u0103 noim\u0103 prin ora\u0219, c\u0103lare pe un m\u0103gar, rostind vorbe f\u0103r\u0103 \u0219ir \u0219i f\u0103r\u0103 rost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex Am constatat c\u0103 interlocutorii no\u0219tri din Cru\u0219uva sunt nemul\u021bumi\u021bi de nota\u021bia lui Samurca\u0219 de sub imagine, care vorbe\u0219te despre revolu\u021bia bulgar\u0103 de la 1903, de\u0219i ne-au semnalat doar foarte discret acest lucru. <em>E revolu\u021bia macedonean\u0103<\/em>, ne-au spus ei, <em>noi nu suntem bulgari<\/em>&#8230; Povestea identit\u0103\u021bilor e foarte complicat\u0103 \u0219i ambigu\u0103 \u00een Balcani. P\u00e2n\u0103 la \u00eenceput de secol XX, locuitorii slavi din Macedonia de Nord erau numi\u021bi bulgari de c\u0103l\u0103torii \u0219i istoricii europeni. Ei singuri se numeau bulgari, iar pe vecinii lor din Bulgaria de vest de ast\u0103zi \u00eei numeau atunci nu bulgari, ci, cel mai adesea, \u0160opi. Dar numele acestea nu \u00eensemnau la 1900 ce \u00eenseamn\u0103 ele ast\u0103zi, erau mai degrab\u0103 termeni \u201eetnografici\u201d. Ideea importan\u021bei unor identit\u0103\u021bi, altele dec\u00e2t cele bazate pe religie, prinde contur \u00een contextul sf\u00e2r\u0219itului de secol XIX \u0219i \u00eenceputului de secol XX, \u00een vremuri politice \u0219i istorice complicate. Ast\u0103zi, locuitorii din Macedonia de Nord sunt foarte m\u00e2ndri de o identitate istoric\u0103 \u0219i etnic\u0103 distinct\u0103 a lor, pe care, \u00een convorbirile cu ei, am constatat c\u0103 unii, inclusiv arom\u00e2nii din Macedonia de Nord, o coboar\u0103 p\u00e2n\u0103 la Alexandru Macedon. Personal, dincolo de orice adev\u0103r istoric, genetic sau antropologic, voi r\u0103m\u00e2ne mereu la opinia c\u0103 fiecare om are dreptul s\u0103 se socoteasc\u0103 ce vrea el, at\u00e2ta vreme c\u00e2t nu \u00eencalc\u0103 acela\u0219i drept al seam\u0103nului s\u0103u. Pentru a nu genera discu\u021bii pe teme na\u021bionale, care ne-ar fi bruiat comunicarea cu oamenii locului, am decis s\u0103 t\u0103iem \u00eenscrisul de sub reproducerea tip\u0103rit\u0103 a fotografiei fra\u021bilor Manakia pe care o aveam cu noi. Am realizat mai apoi c\u0103, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 fi pl\u0103nuit o secund\u0103 acest lucru, f\u0103cusem fotografia nu doar din acela\u0219i loc, ci \u0219i \u00een aceea\u0219i zi, la fix 114 ani distan\u021b\u0103 \u00een timp fa\u021b\u0103 de fra\u021bii Manakia. Uneori a fost simplu, uneori a fost complicat. Alteori a fost pur \u0219i simplu noroc! Casa lui fusese ultima din cadrul de alt\u0103dat\u0103 care rezistase p\u00e2n\u0103 aproape de zilele noastre, pentru c\u0103 arsese trei ani \u00eenainte de popasul meu acolo, \u0219i ne-a ar\u0103tat-o \u00een fotografia fra\u021bilor Manakia salvat\u0103 pe tableta colegului meu. E infinit mai greu s\u0103 descoperi, pornind de la o imagine veche, un sat ne\u0219tiut, dec\u00e2t s\u0103 refaci, la un secol distan\u021b\u0103, fotografia unui loc celebru al omenirii, imediat identificabil. Am umblat mult \u0219i cu pl\u0103cere prin col\u021buri ascunse ale Greciei de nord. Pove\u0219tile abund\u0103, uneori chiar mai interesante prin coinciden\u021be simbolice dec\u00e2t cea de la Cru\u0219uva. Mi i-am imaginat pe Milton \u0219i Ianaki Manakia cum merg cu uria\u0219ul lor aparat fotografic, pe spate de cat\u00e2ri, un secol \u0219i mai bine \u00een urm\u0103, pe drumuri \u0219i coclauri care mie, inclusiv ast\u0103zi, mi s-au p\u0103rut dificil de str\u0103b\u0103tut. \u00cen decembrie 2021, imediat dup\u0103 Cr\u0103ciun, am \u00eencheiat seria refacerii cu aceea\u0219i \u00eencadrare a fotografiilor fra\u021bilor Manakia cu o imagine de la Metsovo \/ Aminciu, cea mai mare a\u0219ezare a arom\u00e2nilor din Grecia, un loc de o frumuse\u021be \u0219i poezie special\u0103, care mie \u00eemi e foarte drag. Fotografia mea a fost f\u0103cut\u0103 tot iarna, exact ca \u00een originalul fra\u021bilor Manakia. Fotografia s-a dovedit a fi un instrument de cercetare de teren deosebit de util, un drum c\u0103tre concluzii care \u021bintesc la \u00een\u021belegerea felului \u00een care se transform\u0103 \u00een timp lumile mici \u0219i comunit\u0103\u021bile izolate sub t\u0103v\u0103lugul istoriei. Tocmai de aceea, de\u0219i am \u00eencheiat refacerea \u0219i identificarea localiz\u0103rii fotografiilor vechi, proiectul meu de teren e departe de a fi la final \u0219i se va concretiza, c\u00e2ndva, sper, \u00eentr-o carte sau \u00eentr-un film documentar.
